Ancient and Modern Gnosticism

(Excerpts)

…it was the discovery of a cache of ancient Gnostic scriptures at Nag Hammadi in the Egyptian desert in 1945 that really set off the modern phase of the Gnostic revival.

Although their translation into English was not complete until the late 1970s, early access to some of the writings inspired the great psychologist Carl Jung to draw parallels between the ancient Gnostics and modern depth psychology.

The publication in 1977 of the Nag Hammadi Librarytranslations, followed in 1978 by religious scholar Elaine Pagels’ best-selling exposition, The Gnostic Gospels, guaranteed that Gnosticism would not go away anytime soon.

Christian aspirations to a universal faith, applicable to anyone with ears to hear, led many Gnostics to posit that God the Father, of whom Jesus spoke, must be a different God altogether: a hitherto Unknown God Who existed far above the earthly realm and was free of ethnic contracts or favouritism.

Christ functioned as the messenger from this remote and impartial God, and some Gnostic scriptures downgraded the Jealous God of the Old Testament to the role of Demiurge, a lesser creator-god who brought a flawed Creation into existence and mistakenly ruled it with a heavy hand as if he were the True God.1

Thus, in the Gnostic view, salvation from this diminished material realm of suffering and injustice depended less on one’s mere beliefs or on the following of religious laws that the Demiurge put in place, than on the individual’s inner experience of gnosis – a divine knowledge of the cosmic order and one’s true identity.

The Gnostic scriptures alluded to Christ’s secret teachings, which would aid the Gnostic to embrace gnosis, and armed with this knowledge, to escape the illusory realm of the Demiurge at the time of death.

The most common Gnostic revision of the Creation story spoke of Sophia (Wisdom), an extension of the True God, venturing forth from the Pleroma (the fullness of the ineffable divine realm), producing an aborted spiritual being, Ialdobaoth (the Demiurge), who in turn created the flawed material world.

Sophia, seeing sparks of the divine entrapped in matter, descended to try and free them and was herself entrapped.

It took the efforts of the Christ (pre-existing in the Pleroma) to extricate her and return her, past the Archons presiding over intermediate planes, to her rightful place beside Him: a tale symbolic of the plight of the soul enmeshed in illusion.

Finally, the indications in Gnostic scriptures, such as the Gospel of Philip and the Gospel of Mary, that Mary Magdalene was closer to Jesus than the other disciples and received secret teachings denied to them, undercut both St. Paul’s misogynist version of Christianity and the Catholic Church’s claim to legitimacy based on St. Peter’s supposed selection as the “rock” on which the Church would be built.

The prominent role given to the Divine Feminine via the Gnostic veneration of the Magdalene and Sophia was partly recuperated by the Roman Church through the significance it later afforded the Virgin Mary, but this status was subsumed within the overall supremacy of a Church run by celibate males.

In ripping away the façade of normality, we come face to face with our true dilemma – we live in a maze of illusions and self-delusions from which we must extricate ourselves. This is, of course, a fundamentally Gnostic worldview.

The ancient Gnostics were aware that material existence is, at its root, a beguiling and temporary illusion. (Hindus called this “Maya”).

Modern physics has confirmed this at the sub-molecular level, where one can see that apparently solid objects are, in fact, composed of moving bits of energy that are neither wholly particle nor wave. The closer one looks, the less there is to see. The vast emptiness of outer space is mirrored by the vast emptiness within matter itself.

Esoteric traditions around the world teach that consciousness can exist independent of the body, and that the ability to deliver our consciousness from its addiction to sensory input and compulsive thought patterns can lead to an experience of divine consciousness (gnosis).

The message of the Christ of the Gnostics was not that he considered himself the unique and only Son of God, but that each person has the potential to expand their consciousness across the vast emptiness to the level of godhood or Self-realisation.

If the illusoriness of daily life was self-evident in the relatively simple world of two millennia ago, it is becoming even more so, for those with the eyes to see, in the present world of cybernetic virtual realities, Hollywood dream-worlds, instant messaging, corporate branding campaigns, and information warfare.

Lots of Solar flares

October 22, 2014

What’s up in space

During the past 48 hours, monster sunspot AR2192 has unleashed seven M-class solar flares. The most powerful of the bunch (Oct 22nd at 0159 UT) was an M9-class eruption that almost crossed the threshold into X-territory. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash:

UV radiation from the flare ionized Earth’s upper atmosphere, causing a brief blackout of HF radio communications on the dayside of Earth (e.g., parts of Asia and Australia). In addition, the explosion might have hurled a CME into space. Confirmation awaits the arrival of coronagraph data from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). Stay tuned for updates.

More flares are in the offing. AR2192 has an unstable ‘beta-gamma-delta’ magnetic field that harbors energy for powerful explosions. NOAA forecasters estimate at 65% chance of M-class flares and a 20% chance of X-flares on Oct. 22nd.

*Sunset Solar Eclipse

Oct 17, 2014: Sunsets are always pretty. One sunset this month could be out of this world. On Thursday, Oct. 23rd, the setting sun across eastern parts of the USA will be red, beautiful and … crescent-shaped.

“It’s a partial solar eclipse,” explains longtime NASA eclipse expert Fred Espenak. In other words, the New Moon is going to ‘take a bite’ out of the sun.

Full Supermoon in Aquarius

August 8, 2014

Aquarius Full Moon is a SuperMoon

(excerpt)

The Aquarius Full Moon on August 10 is a SuperMoon. It is one in a series of five SuperMoons this year. This makes the Full Moon extra potent and powerful being so close to the Earth. Full Moons bring to your conscious awareness what has laid hidden. What we may have overlooked or not known can become crystal clear. This Full Moon could be an emotional roller coaster ride. It is an opportunity to stand in your truth and rise above the drama. Ground yourself daily. Do what balances you. Step back and do not react when curve balls are thrown at you. Be proactive and not reactive. This will empower you to be effective. You have no control over what other people say or do. Your point of power lies in what you think and do. Own you power. Your power is in the present in this moment.

*Full Supermoon in Aquarius Horoscopes

(excerpt)

When the friendly and cooperative Aquarius Moon opposes the Sun in regal Leo, we start to see the difference between satisfying ourselves (Leo) and collaborating with others (Aquarius). But both of these signs like to play, which is why this Full Moon, happening on August 10 at 2:09pm EDT, usually puts people into a fun and fiesty mood. Not to mention, this Full Moon is also the biggest, closest of this year’s Supermoons. But beware: stern Saturn’s constraining square to the Full Moon could dampen the party spirit, reminding us that fulfilling obligations should come before having fun.

Oh my goodness, are you ready for the full Moon in Aquarius this Sunday? Or are you pooped out and tired of the effort necessary to carry on the task of evolution (your own as well as the planet)? Yup, got some tests in endurance happening here, but the rewards (illumination of past/present dynamics) will be exhilarating for those that hang in there! Don’t back down or give up just yet…

Professor’s “Kill 90% of Population” Comments Echo UN, Elite NGO policies

(excerpts)

Dr. Eric R. Pianka gave a speech to the Texas Academy of Science last month in which he advocated the need to exterminate 90% of the population through the airborne ebola virus. Pianka’s chilling comments, and their enthusiastic reception again underscore the elite’s agenda to enact horrifying measures of population control.

Standing in front of a slide of human skulls, Pianka gleefully advocated airborne ebola as his preferred method of exterminating the necessary 90% of humans, choosing it over AIDS because of its faster kill period. Ebola victims suffer the most tortuous deaths imaginable as the virus kills by liquefying the internal organs. The body literally dissolves as the victim writhes in pain bleeding from every orifice.

Pianka was later presented with a distinguished scientist award by the Academy. Pianka is no crackpot. He has given lectures to prestigious universities worldwide.

Amazingly the audience of fellow scientists and students present at Dr Pianka’s presentation in Texas actually applauded, cheered and laughed approvingly.

*Ebola Virus: The Global Elite’s Bio-Weapon Scheme for 90 Percent Depopulation

(excerpt)

Overseen by the US Department of Defense (DoD) under the Transformational Medical Technologies program (TMT) of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have spent millions of dollars conducting scientific research into the Ebola virus, its potential for being turned into a bio-weapon and certain vaccine efforts through two drug corporations, Massachusetts-based Sarepta Therapeutics and Tekmira Pharmaceuticals of Canada . Then the funding was abruptly cut.

The TMT creates relationships with private sector biotech firms, pharmaceutical corporations and academic institutions, as well as other government agencies to advance biological warfare, research viral and biological weapons and estimate threat levels of all biological agents based on ability to infect and effectiveness of devastation.

The DoD suddenly stopped funding Ebola vaccine research through these two corporations due to financial constraints. With the sporadic nature of Ebola outbreaks, combined with the absolute deadly nature of the virus makes it a hard sell to large pharmaceutical corporations because it “isn’t a huge customer base and big pharma is obviously interested in big profits. So these niche products which are important for biodefense are really driven by small companies,” according to Larry Zeitlin, president of Mapp Biophamracueticals, who is developing therapies to combat Ebola.

Mysteriously, microbiologists and virologists who were involved with research into immunology and bioweapons have either gone missing or found dead over two decades. Some of these scientists had ties to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the NIH, the DoD – just to name a few. While the number of experts involved in infectious disease research having died under questionable circumstances has risen exponentially, the US government has remained non-chalant.

Scientists report way to teleport data

Scientists Report Finding Reliable Way to Teleport Data

(excerpts)

Scientists in the Netherlands have moved a step closer to overriding one of Albert Einstein’s most famous objections to the implications of quantum mechanics, which he described as “spooky action at a distance.”

In a paper published Thursday in the journal Science, physicists at the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at the Delft University of Technology reported that they were able to reliably teleport information between two quantum bits separated by three meters, or about 10 feet.

Quantum teleportation is not the “Star Trek”-style movement of people or things; rather, it involves transferring so-called quantum information — in this case the spin state of an electron — from one place to another without moving the physical matter to which the information is attached.

…the scientists are now closer to proving Einstein wrong in his early disbelief in the notion of entanglement, in which particles separated by light-years can still instantaneously appear to remain connected, with the state of one particle affecting the state of another.
